I very recently joined the church and have been wondering why we sing songs that were written by unsaved people? I actually love these old hymns like &#8220;Sweet Hour of Prayer&#8221; and &#8220;All Hail the Power of Jesus Name&#8221;, but I have felt odd singing them knowing that some of these were written by people who did not believe in baptism for the remission of sins.<\/p>\n\t<h2>Answer:<\/h2>\n<p>What makes a song worthy to be used is what it says and not who wrote it. See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/evaluating-new-songs\/\">Evaluating New Songs<\/a>. There are many songwriters producing quality hymns. You can find a list of past writers from the church in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/bible-studies\/the-young-persons-guide-to-the-hymnbook\/hymn-writers-among-churches-of-christ\/\">Hymn Writers Among Churches of Christ<\/a>. Songbooks, such as <em>Sacred Selections for the Church<\/em>,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rjstevensmusic.com\/\">Hymns for Worship<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.taylorpublications.com\/index.php?route=product\/category&amp;path=4_80\">Praise for the Lord<\/a><\/em>, and\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/sumphonia.com\/hymnals\/index.html\">Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs<\/a><\/em> are all edited by members of the church and feature a number of songs written by members.
