I wanted to ask how will I be able to go to a biblical church? My parents have always gone to a Catholic church, which doesn’t follow the biblical teachings (infant baptism, the worship of Mary and saints, saying that good works are the way to be saved, etc.). When I bring this up, they don’t believe me. I don’t wish to break my honor to my parents by sneaking out to a church, so what should I do?<\/p>\n\t
“Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. … So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple<\/em>” (Luke 14:25-27,33).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Honoring your parents does not mean placing your parents above God. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth<\/em>” (Ephesians 6:1-3). The phrase “in the Lord” is key to this command. God is not saying obey your parents no matter what they tell you. You honor and obey your parents while their instruction lines up with the teachings of God.<\/p>\n
I don’t know how old you are, but there is no need to sneak. Be open about the fact that you are attending a different church and why. If you are a minor and they insist that you also go with them to the Catholic church, then you have to be respectful to them, but I’m sure there are plenty of opportunities to go to a faithful church and when you are older, you can make your own choices.<\/p>\n
I’ve known people who were disowned or kicked out of their homes because they decided that the truth is more important. That is the level of commitment that Christ is saying we need to have to be his follower. I hope that it doesn’t come to that point with you, but I do want you to think about how important following Christ completely is to you.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
