Text: I Timothy 2:1-7<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I. God wants people saved – I Timothy 2:3-4<\/p>\n
A. He doesn’t want to see even the wicked destroyed – Ezekiel 33:11<\/p>\n
B. Why?<\/p>\n
1. You are His child – Acts 17:28-29<\/p>\n
2. He made you – Genesis 1:26-27<\/p>\n
3. He bought you – I Peter 1:18-19<\/p>\n
4. He chose you – I Peter 1:2<\/p>\n
5. He loves you – Galatians 2:20<\/p>\n
C. So why do so many feel they cannot be saved?<\/p>\n
II. I’ve sinned too much<\/p>\n
A. It is true that the wages of sin is death – Romans 6:23<\/p>\n
1. But every sinner can be rescued<\/p>\n
B. God can cleanse the vilest sinner – Isaiah 1:18<\/p>\n
C. There is no limit on who may respond to God’s gracious offer<\/p>\n
1. Whoever believes – John 3:16<\/p>\n
2. Christ ransomed all – I Timothy 2:6<\/p>\n
3. Salvation was brought to all – Titus 2:11<\/p>\n
4. God doesn’t want any to perish – II Peter 3:9<\/p>\n
III. I committed an unpardonable sin<\/p>\n
A. Oddly, the words unforgivable and unpardonable don’t appear in the Bible<\/p>\n 1. Yet people are certain that killing, or fornication, or blasphemy makes\nthem ineligible for salvation\n B. The only sins that are not forgiven are those not repented of, like Esau – Hebrews\n12:15-17\n
C. A radical change is necessary – II Corinthians 7:10-11<\/p>\n D. True, some refuse to change. Some go so deep into sin that there remains no\ndesire to return. \n
1. That is what Jesus warned about in Luke 12:10<\/p>\n 2. You can reject Christ, but the evidence is still there. But if you reject the\nevidence, what will lead you back to Christ? – Romans 10:17\n E. It isn’t a matter of God refusing to accept you. The question is: Are you willing to\ncome back to God.\n
IV. There is a sin that I just can’t quit<\/p>\n
A. We are to live a holy life – I Peter 1:13-16<\/p>\n B. We cannot expect to enter heaven if we continue to sin – I Corinthians 6:9-10;\nHebrews 10:26-27\n C. Sometimes we go to the opposite extreme and think that God is looking for\nabsolute perfection\n
1. God is looking for good and faithful servants – Matthew 25:21<\/p>\n
2. There is no just man who does not sin – Ecclesiastes 7:20<\/p>\n
3. The honest view is that we all sin at times – I John 1:8, 10<\/p>\n D. Thus, the question isn’t whether we have sinned, but what we do in face of the\nfact that we’ve sinned\n
1. We have to admit it – Proverbs 28:13; I John 1:9<\/p>\n
2. We can’t accept it – Romans 6:1-2<\/p>\n
3. We have to change – II Corinthians 7:10-11<\/p>\n
4. We can’t give up – James 4:7-8; Galatians 6:9<\/p>\n
E. God forgives. The number of times necessary isn’t the issue – Matthew 18:21-22<\/p>\n
1. God doesn’t think like men. He doesn’t tire – Isaiah 55:6-7<\/p>\n
2. God is greater than Satan – I John 4:4<\/p>\n 3. There is always a way out. We just have to keep looking – I Corinthians\n10:13\n
V. There is no reason to remain in sin – Ezekiel 18:30-32<\/p>\n
