I have been in a sexual relationship with a man who I love deeply for several years. We are both divorced from other marriages. I want to marry him, I always have. But recently, he told me his feelings have changed and he wants to be free. This is after years of proclaiming he would marry me and love me always. We are both Christians. Doesn’t he have any responsibility to me in God’s eyes?<\/p>\n\t
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God<\/em>” (I Corinthians 6:9-10).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
I find it disturbing when people call themselves Christian while not following Christ. No, fornication does not create any obligations between two people. This is just one of many reasons why sex belongs only in marriage. I don’t know if your divorces allowed either of you to marry again. Jesus only permitted remarriage when divorce was because of fornication on the part of the other spouse (Matthew 19:9). But even assuming it did, the fornication you two were involved in was nothing more than the gratification of the flesh. In God’s eyes, you both stand before him in sin. “Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge<\/em>” (Hebrews 13:4).<\/p>\n\t
