I know Jesus is the only help, I gave my life to Christ initially two years ago. I’ve rededicated my life a number of times since then. God started blessing me, I basically have come from zero to something. God gave me a virtuous wife, a home, cars, prospered my business and He is still doing more. My problem is that although I feel like things have changed because I no longer delve into sin with reckless abandon. Something inside of me is so loud anytime I want to commit sin. However, I’m having a major battle dealing with the sin of adultery and addiction. I’m newly married. I know Jesus is real, I don’t want to cross him because I’m scared of the repercussion.

Now, I’ve just started my life, and the temptations here are so much that I keep faltering. I’m battling to control my urges, sir. The worst part is that the sin I engage in is mocking the glory of God in my life. I’m tired, I cannot fail God, I cannot fail myself. But still, I’m finding it hard to stay on course. I had stopped my addiction, but when I picked it up again, it’s become tougher to discard.

I need help, I need prayers, I want to serve God. I need the men of God to help me and especially to tell Jesus that I’m tired of sinning. Only he can remold me because the forces against my destiny are getting stronger by the day. I need the great potter to deliver me and remold me.

Please help me, sir.

Answer:

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (I Corinthians 10:13).

You are looking for someone outside of yourself to make you behave. But the choice to not sin is yours to make. God teaches you what is wrong and why it is wrong in the Bible. Whether you decide to listen to God or not is up to you. What God guarantees is that you are able to make that choice.

Let’s take adultery as an example. There is zero reason why you have to have sex with someone who is not your wife. The temptation might be there, but temptations can be ignored. “So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent. People do not despise a thief If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving. Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house. Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul. Wounds and dishonor he will get, And his reproach will not be wiped away” (Proverbs 6:29-33). A guy having sex is never innocent because everyone knows that he did so by choice.

I assume the addiction you refer to is to drugs. Here there is a chemical compulsion to use a drug, but that compulsion does not have to be followed. It can be ignored as well. You won’t die or go crazy if you decide not to use a drug.

Question: Good evening sir, I need help with sin.
