Is scripture reading also an act of worship along with prayer, songs, preaching, the Lord’s supper, and giving?<\/p>\n
Is there any biblical order to be done in worship?<\/p>\n\t
“Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching<\/em>” (I Timothy 4:13).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Since the reading is done publically, it is reasonable to conclude that it was done as a part of worship services. It should not be surprising as the Jews read scripture when they gathered in synagogues for worship. “And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read<\/em>” (Luke 4:16). “For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath<\/em>” (Acts 15:21). The implication is that this practice was carried over to the church. “I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren<\/em>” (I Thessalonians 5:27).<\/p>\n
There is no order in which worship services are to be done. There are guidelines in I Corinthians 14, for how the services are to be conducted, such as<\/p>\n

- “So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air<\/em>” (I Corinthians 14:9).<\/li>\n
- “What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also. Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying? For you are giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not edified<\/em>” (I Corinthians 14:15-17).<\/li>\n
