<\/p>\nI. Perhaps you have heard statements to the effect that the Bible doesn’t try to prove that\nGod exists. It simply assumes the existence of God.\n A. At the beginning of the Bible we read “In the beginning God created the heavens\nand the earth<\/i>.” (Genesis 1:1)\n 1. Since the Bible did not explain where God came from, it first chapter\nassumes the reader will accept the existence of God.\n
B. Yet, this does not mean the existence of God is not proven<\/p>\n 1. You see, the writer of the first five books was Moses. While the book of\nGenesis is a composite of earlier records, Moses is still the editor of the\nwork.\n 2. Have you ever thought that Moses had the same problem as Joseph Smith,\nMohammed, Ellen G. White, Paul, and even Jesus Christ?\n a. All of these people claimed to have messages from God and all of\nthem had the same problem of convincing their audience that they\nreally heard God.\n b. Think of your reaction if someone came up to you and said, “I have\na message from God.”\n (1) What are you going to do? What will you say? “Yeah,\nright!”\n (2) Would you readily accept the claim without question? Or\nwould you demand some form of proof?\n c. Some proved their message was from God, such as Paul and Jesus,\nothers have miserably failed, such as Smith, White, and\nMohammed.\n
II. Moses’ Problem<\/p>\n A. When Moses saw the burning bush that wasn’t consumed and heard the voice of\nGod, he had solid evidence that God existed.\n B. But Moses’s evidence became his problem. God chose Moses to be His\nspokesman to the Israelites and the Egyptians – Exodus 3:9-12\n
1. Moses must tell people that he heard a message from God<\/p>\n 2. Imagine being told you will tell the most powerful leader on earth to\nrelease his slave workforce.\n a. Few leaders are willing to relinquish power. They are more\ninterested in acquiring more power.\n b. The largest war on American soil was fought over this same\ndemand. \n c. Samuel warned his people of this when they demanded a king – I\nSamuel 8:11-18\n
3. Most of us would not aspire to such a task.<\/p>\n C. Yet, Moses receiving these instructions directly from God while viewing the\nevidence of God’s power.\n 1. One would think an order from the Almighty, the most powerful being in\nall the universe, would be enough of a pep talk.\n 2. After all, who is Pharaoh compared to the Almighty? He is not even a\nspeck of dust on a scale of power in comparison to the great I AM.\n
D. Yet, Moses saw the difficulty he would face – Exodus 4:1<\/p>\n 1. God gave Moses a solution to his problem – not just one, but three\nmiraculous signs that Moses was speaking for God – Exodus 4:2-9\n 2. The evidence, with two back-up signs, would prove to all who saw that\nGod existed.\n 3. It no longer would be an assumption, but objective evidence that would\nhave passed in any court.\nIII. Pharaoh’s stubborn refusal gave God the opportunity to prove His existence – Exodus\n9:14-16\n
A. Pagan Egypt became eyewitnesses to the power of the Eternal God.<\/p>\n
1. Exodus 7:3-5, 17; 8:10-11, 18-19, 21-23<\/p>\n 2. Note: Exodus 9:27-30 – Pharaoh didn’t have any problem believing that\nGod existed by this time.\n
3. Exodus 10:1-2; 11:4-9; 14:15-18, 30-31<\/p>\n B. Not only did Egypt and Israel learn of God, word spread to other nations as well –\nExodus 15:14-16\n
1. God proved Himself mightier than all the idols – Exodus 18:10-11<\/p>\n
2. Even 40 years after the events – Joshua 2:8-11<\/p>\n C. Consider that it was against this backdrop that Moses penned the first five books\nof the Bible.\n
1. God wasn’t assumed to exist.<\/p>\n
2. He was proven to be in great power.<\/p>\n
IV. God never asked for blind acceptance, He always gave evidence – Isaiah 43:8-13<\/p>\n
A. Jesus proved himself – John 20:30-31; 3:1-2<\/p>\n
B. His resurrection was proven – Acts 1:1-3<\/p>\n
C. When the disciples went out preaching – Mark 16:20<\/p>\n
D. We cannot ignore the evidence – Hebrews 2:1-4<\/p>\n
