I’m a Christian. I was a bit bad in my studies, but I got my motivation and I’m starting to study a bit. However, my parents are pushing me a lot, and I’m starting to lose my motivation. But they still help me in studying. I don’t know how to tell them that they push me too much. I don’t want to talk back or argue with them. Please help me.

I have another question. I want to be a crime scene investigator, but that involves guns. I don’t know if it is a sin to go for that career or not. This is a crucial decision for me. Please help me.

Thank you.

Answer:

Understand that your parents are wanting the best for you. You struggled for a while, so they felt the need to give you a push. Now that you are going, they don’t want you to fall back into bad habits.

What you can do is gently mention that you need to do your own studying so you know that your grades reflect your abilities and not your parent’s abilities. If they don’t get the message, you are best off accepting the situation. What they are asking of you is more than what you want to give; yet, it isn’t really harmful to you. Also, remember that school isn’t forever. You can survive the effort.

“If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed” (Hebrews 12:7-13).

There is nothing in the Bible that says the use of a weapon is wrong by itself. It is how the weapon is used that makes the situation right or wrong.
