Jesus ate with sinners (Luke 5:30). Jesus washed sinners’ feet (John 13:1-20). Jesus let His feet be anointed by a prostitute (Luke 7:36-50). Jesus chose twelve sinners to be His apostles, one of whom would betray Him (Matthew 10:2-4). Jesus even died for sinners (Romans 5:8). He lived His perfect life surrounded by sinners of every ilk (Romans 3:23)!

However, nowhere … and I mean nowhere … did Jesus ever say, “Go and sin some more!” Jesus never condoned or endorsed (through His words or by His practice) the sins of those whom He spoke to, forgave, healed, loved, and blessed. Just as He told the woman caught in the very act of adultery, so Jesus tells all who would find salvation today (to include homosexuals and every other kind of sinner) – “Go and sin no more” (John 8:1-11).

It is incredibly easy to blur the line between ignoring sin and condoning sin, particularly when it comes to making money or avoiding persecution. Jesus never did. He never shied away from speaking the truth. You cannot convict someone to embrace the good news of Jesus Christ (salvation through Jesus’ shed blood) without first convicting them of the bad news of sin (they are sinners and worthy of death).

God “makes His sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust” (Matthew 5:45). I dare not speak for my Lord and say that He would never bake a cake that would be eaten at a homosexual marriage (or an adulterous marriage, et al), but I can safely say He would never, ever condone and advocate the sin of homosexuality (Matthew 19:4-6; I Corinthians 6:9-11), or any other sin for that matter. I can also safely say that he would never, ever ask His brother to violate His conscience in such a thing if he chose not to bake that cake sacrificed unto someone’s idol (cf. Romans 14:22-23; I Corinthians 8:9-13).

Jesus gave His life on the cross of Calvary because of sins such as homosexuality! To suggest, imply or even hint at the idea that Jesus would endorse such an activity is to deny the very sacrifice one might claim for their own salvation (cf. Hebrews 10:26-30). Think it through.

by Jonathan Perz Yes. Jesus ate with sinners (Luke 5:30). Jesus washed sinners’ feet (John 13:1-20).
