But before I received him, and now after, I have feared committing the unpardonable sin. I have thoughts that constantly plague me and the Bible said we should cast down everything that exalts itself above the knowledge of God, so I’ve been telling every thought out loud to submit to Christ. But sometimes I get so overwhelmed. I have had a thought that popped up in my head while I was drifting to sleep that “The fire has been extinguished. You are no longer a child of God, you are eternally damned.” I thought it may have come from the Holy Spirit. I am scared.

Answer:

““Behold, I am against the prophets,” says the LORD, “who use their tongues and say, ‘He says.’ Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” says the LORD, “and tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all,” says the LORD. “So when these people or the prophet or the priest ask you, saying, ‘What is the oracle of the LORD?’ you shall then say to them, ‘What oracle?’ I will even forsake you,” says the LORD. And as for the prophet and the priest and the people who say, ‘The oracle of the LORD!’ I will even punish that man and his house”” (Jeremiah 23:31-34).

God said that speaking in tongues (which means speaking in other languages of men and not the babbling that you do) and prophecy (which means speaking the words of God) ended. “Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away” (I Corinthians 13:8-10). “That which is perfect” is referring to the Bible and the time of its completion. “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:25).

Everything that you’ve mentioned is contrary to God’s teaching. The Bible doesn’t speak of an unpardonable sin; that is, a sin that God refuses to forgive even if it is repented of. You think that God would actually condemn you, not because of sins you are doing, but as an arbitrary reason. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (II Peter 3:9). And you are claiming that God is making a final judgment before Judgment Day. “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God” (I Corinthians 4:5).

Question: I have recently been filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of tongues.
