I need to know something: Is it a sin to divorce someone who forces you to worship idols? I have been praying fasting for my husband to stop. He sees the light for a short period but he goes back again. This has been happening for years. His family wants to force me to worship idols as well, slaughtering goats, talk to the ancestors, etc. I don’t approve of these works, but now it seems like I’m stuck to this marriage and they are pulling me away from the true God.<\/p>\n
Help me. What shall I do?<\/p>\n\t
No one can force a person to worship what they do not accept. You might face pressure, but in the end, you have full control over what you do. You are facing nothing different than many early Christians faced. You live a life of a Christian. If your husband is fine with that, he’ll remain. If he doesn’t like it, he’ll leave.<\/p>\n
“But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases.
