It seems that whenever it is found that people are ignoring moral common sense, the outcry is for society to give in and make the immoral action easier or have fewer consequences.

“Teenage girls may prefer the pill, the patch or even wishful thinking, but their doctors should be recommending IUDs or hormonal implants – long-lasting and more effective birth control that you don’t have to remember to use every time, the nation’s leading gynecologists group said Thursday. … The new guidelines go further in saying physicians should discuss the two types of birth control with sexually active teens at every doctor visit. … While it may sound surprising that such invasive contraceptives are being endorsed for teenagers, 43 percent of girls ages 15 to 19 have had sex, a government survey found. Most are using some kind of effective birth control, but only about 5 percent use the long-lasting devices, the gynecologists group said.”

Overlooked is that IUDs do not prevent the conception of a child. They irritate the lining of the uterus to prevent the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. In simple terms, it is an abortive. Nor are IUDs perfect. There is a 0.8% to 2% chance of pregnancy, depending on the type used, even while using the device. IUDs also increase the risk of anemia (from heavier blood flows), infection, and sterility. If pregnancy does happen to occur, it becomes dangerous due to serious infections or the child being knocked out of the uterus (ectopic pregnancy). [“The Intrauterine Device (IUD),” Palo Alto Medical Foundation].

It should be pointed out that long-lasting devices can only be obtained from gynecologists — the same group advocating that these devices should be constantly discussed and recommended. And in nearly half of the states, parental involvement is not required. So, who is going to pay for these things that parents might not even know about? Do not worry; the government is offering to pay the tab.

“In 21 states, all teenagers can get contraceptives without parental permission … The IUD and implant cost hundreds of dollars. The new health reform law requires health insurance plans to cover birth control without co-payments. Also, some publicly funded health clinics offer birth control free or at a reduced cost.”

While people attempt to make the physical consequences of promiscuous sex avoidable, it doesn’t change the simple fact that sex outside of marriage is wrong. People have gotten into their heads that the only reason fornication is wrong is that it might result in pregnancy or disease. But sex outside of marriage remains sinful even if no disease is passed or a child is conceived. “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:9-10).

People following the laws of God don’t have to worry about unwed pregnancies or incurable diseases, and they can be worry-free without the use of expensive and invasive devices. They simply choose to wait until marriage to have sex.

Source: Lindsey Tanner, “Teenage Girls Should Get IUDs or Hormonal Implants for Birth Control, Says American College of OBGYNs,” CNSNews.com, 20 September 2012 Logic has not been the strong point among liberal policymakers for decades.
