I came across your site about a week ago, and I found it to be very helpful. By God’s grace, I am a Christian. There is something that’s bothering me. I don’t know whether to call it forgetfulness or loss of memory. For instance, the Lord may reveal something to me either by His word or by His Spirit, and before the next day, the thing will just fizzle out of my mind, even when I remember it eventually, it won’t make sense to me anymore; thereby making me live an unstable Christian life. I don’t know the cause of it or the solution to it, but I am hoping to receive God’s counsel through you.<\/p>\n\t
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds<\/em>” (Hebrews 1:1-2).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The idea that God continues to communicate directly with individuals is false for a variety of reasons. God said He would stop using prophets. “Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away<\/em>” (I Corinthians 13:8). All information now flows through the Son, who directed the Spirit to guide the Apostles. “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you<\/em>” (John 16:13-14). The Apostles, in turn, wrote these things down for us. “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual<\/em>” (I Corinthians 2:12-13). They were recorded that we might have a permanent record of what we, as Christians, need to do. “Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease<\/em>” (II Peter 1:13-15).<\/p>\n

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work<\/em>” (II Timothy 3:16-17).<\/p>\n
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints<\/em>” (Jude 3).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
A complete and perfect record leaves no room for further revelations. Anything additional would mean what was already give was inadequate.<\/p>\n
“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ<\/em>” (Galatians 1:6-10).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Understanding, then, the importance of God’s Word to the world, we focus on learning the Scriptures. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth<\/em>” (II Timothy 2:15). You read God’s Word, and if it doesn’t stay with you, then you read it again. You study it; you meditate on it until it becomes a part of you. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths<\/em>” (Proverbs 3:5-6).<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
