What is being argued is that it is acceptable to look at scantily dressed people for entertainment. But if that is true, when does clothing become immodest? When other people aren’t wearing enough or only when you aren’t wearing enough?<\/p>\n
“In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works<\/em>” (I Timothy 2:9-10).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Yes, movies often feature sensual scenes. To create a desire for the product, the producers must appeal to one or more of the basic lusts in people: “For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world<\/em>” (I John 2:16). Scantily dressed people appeal to the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes.<\/p>\n
People don’t understand when Christians insist on holding themselves to a stricter moral standard, but we know God is watching. “Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles–when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
