Ecstasy and marijuana are among the most commonly abused drugs. I didn’t find much research on how these two drugs interact. But there are some concerns expressed.<\/p>\n

In The Poison Review,<\/em> there is an article called “DAWN: ERs seeing more cases involving abuse of ecstasy<\/a>.” It warns that when a person shows up at the emergency room because of ecstasy use, 80% of the cases involve the taking of one or more other drugs. “Marijuana, alcohol, and cocaine were the most common drugs taken in combination with ecstasy.” That high rate is an indication that there is some negative interaction going on between the drugs.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Advances in Urology,<\/em> there is an article called “Priapism, Ecstasy, and Marijuana: Is There a Connection?<\/a>” Priapism is when a man has an erection that will not stop. Erections that last beyond an hour hurts. An erection that lasts more than four hours will cause damage to the penis. The article discusses a case where a man had an erection that lasted four days before the doctors found a way to get it to stop. They could not find any reason for the sustained erection other than that the man had taken ecstasy and marijuana together. The doctor’s theory is that marijuana enhanced the effects of ecstasy. Specifically, they noted research that shows a synergistic relationship between ecstasy and marijuana. While the reaction this man had was not common, it does show the dangers of combining drugs can exceed the dangers of each drug independently.<\/p>\n

Ecstasy is not a safe drug. It can cause the body to lose its ability to regulate temperature, causing the body to overheat. Ecstasy “produces significant reductions in mental abilities. These changes, particularly those affecting memory, can last for up to a week and possibly longer in regular users. The fact that MDMA [Ecstasy] markedly impairs information processing emphasizes the potential dangers of performing complex or even skilled activities, such as driving a car, while under the influence of this drug” [“Ecstasy Effects<\/a>“]. Another danger to ecstasy is that it interferes with the body’s ability to break it down. Thus, the user can easily overdose on the drug, not realizing the prior doses are still in his system.<\/p>\n

You then add marijuana to the mix, and you have additional trouble since marijuana is fat-soluble and can stay in your body for six months or more after you stop using it. Its presence makes the effects of ecstasy more pronounced and thus more dangerous.<\/p>\n

Christians don’t use drugs like these because they alter the mind. “Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ<\/em>” (I Thessalonians 5:6-9).<\/p>\n\t
