She continued, “I should have put my husband before my preaching of the Word.” She said that this “idol” had separated her from her husband. I first thought that God and His Word should be first and foremost in our lives. I also thought that if she were truly following God and His Word, she would’ve not been a preacher (a teacher but not a preacher), and she wouldn’t have found herself in her predicament. Most understand the necessity of faith to salvation but forget the faith is based on what is learned. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God<\/em>” (Romans 10:17). God’s Word, the Bible, is the teachings of the Creator. We worship God, so it should be obvious that God’s teachings are critical to the believer. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensom<\/em>e” (I John 5:3).<\/p>\n The reason this person disparages the Word of God is that it got in the way of what she wanted to do. She placed her family ahead of serving God, but Jesus said, “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life<\/em>” (Matthew 19:29). We have duties to family but our duties to God come first.<\/p>\n But you are correct that this woman already started off on the wrong foot when she violated God’s teachings and called herself a preacher. “And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence<\/em>” (I Timothy 2:12).
