I won’t call it brainwashing as that implies your son is being manipulated against his will. What I see in his note is a young man completely deceived by the lies of a Messianic Jewish group of some sort. There are so many that I doubt I can narrow it down to which one.<\/p>\n

I don’t know if it will work, but just ask him if he wishes to speak in plain English, why is his note filled with what appears to be Hebrew words when he knows his dear old dad doesn’t know a lick of Hebrew. I notice that he uses what seems to be quotes from the New Testament, but they are subtly altered and pulled way out of context. For example, he says that Paul said “let us keep the feasts.” Notice “feasts” is in the plural. But the actual quote is: “Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth<\/em>” (I Corinthians 5:7-8). Seen in context, we see that Paul is talking about a single feast that involves the single sacrifice of Christ. He is referring to the Christian’s worship that revolves around the Lord’s Supper, not the Israelite’s worship.<\/p>\nHe also alludes to, but misquotes, Jesus’ statement: “He came not to destroy the Torah but to fulfill.” The actual quote is: “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled<\/em>” (Matthew 5:17-18). The word fulfilled means to be brought to completion or an end. What your son denies is that Jesus finished his work. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes<\/em>” (Romans 10:4).<\/p>\nSo the second line of questions is to note that when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, Satan quoted Scripture, but he pulled passages out of context to make them appear to say things different from what was really said. So why, my son, are you pulling small phrases from scattered parts of the New Testament, but not using them as originally expressed? Why are you making alterations to the words? You leave the impression that the original New Testament cannot support your beliefs, so you must reword it to suit your purpose. You state that the Word alone is sufficient for you, so why are you only using bits and pieces?<\/p>\n
Finally, notice how much he emphasizes the shadow. Is he saying that the shadow is important today?
