Governments do not make marriages. They regulate marriages and provide a depository for the records of marriage, but that is the most they can do. That a marriage did not take place in a court doesn’t say whether a marriage took place or not. A marriage is made by a covenant. “Yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant<\/em>” (Malachi 2:14).<\/p>\n Rewriting history is not the way to solve a problem. Marriages work because two people work together at solving the problems they face.
