So I was wondering if I could ask you to\u00a0assist me with another problem that has recently\u00a0come up.<\/p>\n
I divorced my husband due to his\u00a0adultery.\u00a0 He remarried and now he and his new wife have a son.\u00a0 My ex-husband has been communicating, through our daughter, that he has made a mistake to divorce me.\u00a0 He wants to divorce his current wife in order to pursue a relationship with me.\u00a0 My ex-husband is aware that I do not want to have any contact or communication with him.<\/p>\n
My mother recently told me that even though I divorced this man, according to the gospel I can not marry another man so why not take him up on his offer. I should forgive him, pray about it then remarry him.<\/p>\n
Is she crazy or right?<\/p>\n\t
Your mother doesn’t know her scriptures well. Jesus stated, “And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery<\/em>” (Matthew 19:9). Implied in this statement is that the one not guilty of adultery is free to remarry if they so choose. Since your ex-husband was the one guilty of adultery, he did not have the right to marry again.
