Why is there no female god in the Bible?<\/p>\n\t
If this is in reference to false gods of idolatrous worship, then there are female gods mentioned in the Bible. People worshipped Asheroth or Asherah, a Canaanite goddess of fertility. “So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD. They forgot the LORD their God, and served the Baals and Asherahs<\/i>” (Judges 3:7). At a different time, there is mention of some worshipping a goddess known as the Queen of Heaven. “The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger<\/i>” (Jeremiah 7:18).<\/p>\n
If you are asking why there is not a female equivalent to God, the Father, then you misunderstand the nature of God. God is a spirit. “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth<\/i>” (John 4:24). It would be improper to apply characteristics found in the physical realm, such as male and female, and apply them to beings of the spiritual realm. “And Jesus answered and said to them, ‘The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection’<\/i>” (Luke 20:34-36). Jesus essentially tells us that there is no marriage in heaven because we will be like the angels of whom there is no male or female distinction.<\/p>\n
God is referred to using masculine terms because that is how He has presented Himself in the original Hebrew and Greek texts.
