Hello, I am a 23-year-old Christian. The Lord has spoken to me about my dress and I have struggled to obey Him but am coming around. I am not a big fan of denominations because I believe it has caused many divisions in the body of Christ.\u00a0 With that said it is what it is and I have had a great deal of difficulty finding a “veiling church” in my area.\u00a0 I understand that you are in another state but of what denomination are you?<\/p>\n

The churches of Christ don’t fit the definition of a denomination. As a matter of fact, we reject the concept of denominationalism because of what Paul said, “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?<\/em>” (I Corinthians 1:10-13). What we do, instead, is try to match our practices to be as close to what God directed us in the New Testament.<\/p>\n Each congregation is independent. There is no headquarters or ruling convention. We have no creeds or statements of faith. Yet you will find that the beliefs are fairly consistent, but that is because we all use the same standard — the New Testament.<\/p>\n The head covering issue is one that brethren have not come to a consistent understanding. It is practiced among the brethren as an individual’s choice and not because it is imposed upon them by the church.
