Solomon stated that the purpose of his book was:<\/p>\n
“To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion — a wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, to understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles<\/em>” (Proverbs 1:2-6).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
In other words, the proverbs teach the truth, but the very effort of understanding the proverbs also causes the student to become wiser. Some are straight forward facts, but others cause you to scratch your head and puzzle over them and that act of pondering increases your understanding and wisdom.<\/p>\n
