I have a job where they started a new schedule where they want us to work on Sundays, but I go to church and I don’t want to lose my job, but if I have to, so I can still go to church I will. Do you know of any laws that I can use against them for my right to worship our Lord on Sundays? Please help.

Answer:

Christians are not under laws like the Jews who were required not to work on the seventh day of the week.

In the United States, employers will generally work with an employee so that he can worship. There was a time when I had to work a rotating shift that covered Sundays and Wednesday night Bible studies. I told my boss that I would work extra hours or schedule my meal breaks at the time I needed off, but that I was going to go to worship service at the scheduled times. My boss simply gave me the time off.

There are laws requiring that employers cannot interfere with an employee’s worship, but they are hedged with phrases such as “within reason.” So if you make a polite request and offer the boss alternatives, showing you are willing to work around the problem, you may be surprised what your boss will do for you.

Question: I was wondering, do we Christians have to work Sundays, or are we protected by any kind of laws stating that it is against the law for an employer to make a Christian employee work on a Sunday?
