Is the only requirement for baptizing repentance in faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?

Answer:

The Bible shows people being baptized in lakes, pools, and rivers. The source of water doesn’t matter. The only need is deep enough water to be immersed.

I don’t mind the questions, so please don’t apologize for wanting to learn. In answer to your question about the purpose of baptism, why don’t we let the Bible state it:

“Jesus answered him, “Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see the Kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can’t enter into the Kingdom of God!” (John 3:3-5).

“Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).

“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned” (Mark 16:16).

“Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16).

“Or don’t you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection; knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin” (Romans 6:3-7).

“If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1).

“In whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses” (Colossians 2:11-13).

“For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:26-27).

“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit” (I Corinthians 12:13).

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it; that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:25-27).

“For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:3-5).

“This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you–not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (I Peter 3:21).

So does the Bible state that baptism is not for salvation? Quite the opposite. One of the purposes of baptism is to save a person from their sins.

What is useful is to look at all the passages dealing with salvation and see what God says is needed to be saved.
