Text: Isaiah 34<\/p>\n
Once again, God invites all the nations to listen (Isaiah 33:13). It is not an invitation to hear what has happened but to hear what will happen to them. God is angry with all the nations and has determined to destroy them and their armies. Their dead will not be buried, implying there is no one left who cares. All the governmental nobles (the host of heaven) will fade away or be rolled up like a scroll no longer in use.<\/p>\n
God selects Edom as a representative of what will happen in His anger. He has devoted the nation to complete destruction. It is offered up like a sacrifice. It is being done to recompense Edom for what it has done to Israel (Ezekiel 35; Obadiah 10-15; Amos 1:6,9,11).<\/p>\n
Edom will burn as if it were pitch, and the smoke of its destruction will rise as a constant reminder. It will become a wasteland where only wild animals will occupy it. No one will be there to rule it because the animals need no rulers.<\/p>\n
All are invited to look in the book of God’s prophecies and see that none of them has failed to come about. When God commands, it takes place.
