{"id":6669,"date":"2019-07-22T16:43:08","date_gmt":"2019-07-22T21:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/?page_id=6669"},"modified":"2019-07-22T17:15:20","modified_gmt":"2019-07-22T22:15:20","slug":"elihu-continues","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/bible-studies\/job\/elihu-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"Elihu Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\t<h1>Class 10, Chapters 35-37<\/h1>\n<h2>Chapter 35, Elihu<\/h2>\n<p><strong>35:2-3<\/strong>\u2014do you ask how is it better for me to be righteous?<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:5<\/strong>\u2014Elihu mentions clouds in this verse. He will mention more aspects of God\u2019s creation as he continues his speech. Perhaps the clouds preceding the storm can be seen. God eventually appears in the whirlwind. It may be that a storm approaches at this point in Elihu\u2019s speech.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:6-7<\/strong>\u2014You won\u2019t hurt God by sinning, nor give him anything for being righteous (it\u2019s all his anyway)<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:8<\/strong>\u2014Your wickedness or righteousness concerns humans. It\u2019s people who are affected by it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:9<\/strong>\u2014people cry for help when they are oppressed<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:10-11<\/strong>\u2014people who know wisdom is with God do not ask \u201cWhere is God?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:12-13<\/strong>\u2014pride and insincerity prevent a person\u2019s cries from being heard by God. God doesn\u2019t regard mere words<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:14<\/strong>\u2014he won\u2019t regard your words when you can\u2019t see what he is showing you (<strong>9:11, 33:14<\/strong>). You can\u2019t say you are waiting on him to decide regarding your case.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35:15-16<\/strong>\u2014because God isn\u2019t punishing Job for his many words, he continues to speak and multiplies his words spoken without knowledge.<\/p>\n<h2>Chapter 36, Elihu<\/h2>\n<p><strong>36:4<\/strong>\u2014Elihu\u2019s knowledge comes from God<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:5<\/strong>\u2014God isn\u2019t arbitrary in his dealings with man<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:8-12<\/strong>\u2014God is merciful by giving people a chance to turn from iniquity. They are shown what they have done wrong and receive instruction. God doesn\u2019t just punish without cause. If they turn and obey, prosperity and life continue. If they don\u2019t, they die without knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:13-14<\/strong>\u2014the godless in heart don\u2019t even ask God for help. They die young among the shameful and notorious, the sinful and immoral.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:15<\/strong>\u2014adversity causes people to stop and think about what they\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>In business when you have a victory you celebrate; when you fail you ponder. We consider things with more scrutiny when they don\u2019t go well<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adversity makes people take stock of their choices. God delivers them from their affliction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:16<\/strong>\u2014God will take you away from all of this pain and suffering. He will richly provide for you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:18<\/strong>\u2014remain faithful<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:19<\/strong>\u2014can you save yourself?<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:21<\/strong>\u2014don\u2019t turn to evil<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>When we are tested we are tempted to resort to sin, especially one we\u2019ve chosen in the same kind of test and trouble. Remaining steadfast is better than turning to iniquity. We never regret rejecting a temptation to sin.<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>36:23<\/strong>\u2014we need to remember this in our affliction<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:27-30<\/strong>\u2014Elihu glorifies God\u2019s creation, again mentioning rain and lightning. It could be these are approaching or rain is already here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36:33<\/strong>\u2014The cows know about God\u2019s storms and announce their arrival<\/p>\n<h2>Chapter 37, Elihu<\/h2>\n<p><strong>37:1-5<\/strong>\u2014I predict a storm has now arrived at this point in Elihu\u2019s speech. He talks about how thunder and lightning are God\u2019s creation and he uses them; God is glorified<\/p>\n<p><strong>37:7<\/strong>\u2014Everything stops when God\u2019s storm is happening.<\/p>\n<p><strong>37:13<\/strong>\u2014God uses the weather for his own purposes. To correct, help the land, or out of love.<\/p>\n<p><strong>37:14<\/strong>\u2014stop and consider the wondrous works of God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>Do we think about the wondrous works of God or are we only thinking of the coming judgment on the wicked?<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>37:16<\/strong>\u2014The wondrous works of him who is <strong><u>perfect in knowledge<\/u><\/strong>. We are capable of some impressive things, but the work of God comes from him, and he is perfect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>37:19<\/strong>\u2014we are limited by things like the darkness<\/p>\n<p><strong>37:20<\/strong>\u2014you can\u2019t simply speak to God like to another man.
