You\u2019ve got it all figured out! When you die we won\u2019t know anything.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:3<\/strong>\u2014I know all of this stuff already\u2014so does everybody!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:4<\/strong>\u2014Look at what\u2019s happened to me. I\u2019ve spoken to God and I\u2019m blameless but look at me now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:5<\/strong>\u2014When your life isn\u2019t a disaster you look down on people who are suffering. You think problems are only for people who stumble like it\u2019s entirely their own fault.<\/p>\n<h3>***Point to Consider***<\/h3>\n<p>Are we quick to assign blame to people who are having problems? Obviously, some people\u2019s problems are their own fault. Choices will eventually swing full circle and you have to deal with the outcome, good or bad. The tough part which requires discernment is understanding whether someone\u2019s problems are because of poor choices, or simply troubles that anyone could experience. We all know someone in our family who is always having problems which they brought on themselves. In some cases, it\u2019s obvious that the problems are the result of bad choices, but this isn\u2019t always the truth. We can\u2019t assume it\u2019s always someone\u2019s fault that they have troubles. We can become hardened and cynical because of that problem relative or friend who has self-destructive tendencies and poor foresight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:6<\/strong>\u2014Evil people are the ones who are at ease. Robbers, idolaters, sinners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:7-8<\/strong>\u2014Animals and plants know that God has done this\u2014Just ask them!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:10<\/strong>\u2014God holds everything in his hand<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:11<\/strong>\u2014Your ears can tell you what you\u2019re hearing just like your tongue tests food<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:12<\/strong>\u2014Wisdom and understanding is with the old<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:13<\/strong>\u2014God is the source of wisdom and strength. He has understanding and counsel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:14-15<\/strong>\u2014If God does something no human can stop or change it. You guys are telling me how to \u201cfix\u201d this but since God did it, who can do anything about it??<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:17-21<\/strong>\u2014God undermines and humiliates the top leadership in all areas of life. His power surpasses every man-made hierarchy and position of power. At every level of authority, God can make these people do as he pleases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:22<\/strong>\u2014Nothing is secret from God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:23<\/strong>\u2014He can lift up and bring low, a person or a whole nation. He has understanding and can take it away. He can make the people who are supposed to lead go in circles and wander aimlessly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>Job could also be implying God has taken understanding away from his 3 friends. His standing is high and his friends would likely have power or status of their own. (Law of association)<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Chapter 13 Job<\/h2>\n<p><strong>13:1<\/strong>\u2014I know this (everything mentioned in <strong>chapter 12<\/strong>) because I\u2019ve seen it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears and understood it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:2<\/strong>\u2014I\u2019m not inferior to you\u2014Come on, I know this stuff<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:3<\/strong>\u2014I\u2019m up for arguing my case with God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>Job has probably grown angrier as his friends accuse him so he more vehemently defends himself. He probably expected support from his friends but since they are at odds with him he feels the need to justify himself. He probably feels they don\u2019t get it and desires to explain things from his perspective. He says he\u2019ll do something that he earlier declared impossible or futile in <strong>9:2-3<\/strong> and <strong>9:12<\/strong>.<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13:4<\/strong>\u2014You guys sugar coat things and tell lies. Some helpers you are. The things you say may appear to be logical or appealing in their own way, but it\u2019s a bunch of lies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:5<\/strong>\u2014If you stopped talking it would be true wisdom<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong> I\u2019ve thought this so many times about people it\u2019s not even funny. \u201cYou\u2019d be twice as smart if you said half as much\u201d <strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13:7-8<\/strong>\u2014Do you guys really think you can speak on God\u2019s behalf? Because you speak of God you believe your words are coming from him?<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:9<\/strong>\u2014What if the tables were turned? Would you be innocent? Do you really think you can fool God?<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:10<\/strong>\u2014He will rebuke you if you show partiality <u>even in secret<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:11<\/strong>\u2014You would be terrified of God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:12<\/strong>\u2014Your best advice is garbage<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>Think of that low-level junk on the cover page of so many magazines. It\u2019s like a slap in the face to me because I can determine instantly that it\u2019s worthless, yet someone thought it belonged there and wanted me to see it. Seriously.<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13:13-14<\/strong>\u2014I\u2019ll take whatever happens because of what I say. I\u2019m confident I\u2019m in the right. Why would I do something so stupid to forfeit my life? If I\u2019m going to present my case before God I\u2019m only going to do it because I know I\u2019ll be declared blameless before him. I don\u2019t have a death wish!<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:15<\/strong>\u2014Even if God kills me I\u2019ll defend my cause TO HIS FACE!<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:17<\/strong>\u2014Listen up and hear what I have to say!<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:18<\/strong>\u2014I\u2019ve thought it all through and I\u2019m innocent!<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:19<\/strong>\u2014who can really argue with me?<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong> Job doesn\u2019t treat his friends\u2019 accusations as legitimate points against him. He is convinced of his own integrity. He doesn\u2019t consider his friends&#8217; accusations as authoritative, but rather just peddlers of opinions and well-dressed lies. Job is still fearful of God as told in <strong>verse 20-21<\/strong>.<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13:20-21<\/strong>\u2014Job asks for the same things he asked for in <strong>9:34<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13:22<\/strong>\u2014Job is asking for the thing he said shouldn\u2019t be done in <strong>9:3<\/strong> and <strong>9:12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13:23<\/strong>\u2014Let\u2019s put it all out in the open. I\u2019m ready to be judged.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:24<\/strong>\u2014Where are you, God?<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>Who hasn\u2019t asked that before?<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13:25<\/strong>\u2014I\u2019m of no account<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:26<\/strong>\u2014I\u2019m paying for all the stuff I did when I was young and dumb<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:27<\/strong>\u2014Elihu recalls Job\u2019s words from this verse later in the book. I\u2019m stuck here and can\u2019t go beyond the limits God has put on me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13:28<\/strong>\u2014What is man? He is passing away.<\/p>\n<h2>Chapter 14 Job<\/h2>\n<p><strong>14:1<\/strong>\u2014Man\u2019s short life is full of trouble.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:2<\/strong>\u2014the beginning is promising and then it\u2019s all downhill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:3<\/strong>\u2014why are you in the judgment seat over me? (Job asking his friends)<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:4<\/strong>\u2014We are imperfect<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:5-6<\/strong>\u2014Since God has already put limits on each person in various ways, why can\u2019t he just leave us alone so we can enjoy the fruits of our labors?<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:7-9<\/strong>\u2014Even a tree has hope; it can die but be brought back.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:10<\/strong>\u2014when man dies it\u2019s over<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:11-12<\/strong>\u2014he simply remains dead, it\u2019s final<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:13<\/strong>\u2014Please set a time for me to die and remember it!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:14<\/strong>\u2014I would wait patiently for my death if I only knew when it would be<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:15-17<\/strong>\u2014you would call me away from this life and I would come to you. My sins would be forgotten forever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:18-19<\/strong>\u2014Like things in nature that are destroyed and done away with, you destroy the hope of man<\/p>\n<p><strong>14:20-22<\/strong>\u2014You are against man all his life. You take away his joy and send him away. Man\u2019s troubles are so consuming that he doesn\u2019t know what happens to his children. He must look inward because of his constant, hard troubles. Like a slave who can only occupy himself with his own pain and troubles.<\/p>\n<h2>Chapter 15 Eliphaz<\/h2>\n<p><strong>15:2-3<\/strong>\u2014even though Eliphaz rebukes Job for his long speech he still acknowledges him as wise. He\u2019s saying it\u2019s unbecoming of a wise man to speak as Job has.<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong>That\u2019s not lady-like! Something mothers tell their young daughters when trying to instruct them in acting properly<strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>15:4<\/strong>\u2014you don\u2019t have respect for God<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:5-6<\/strong>\u2014Your iniquity is clear from the words you\u2019ve spoken. You\u2019ve backed yourself into a corner, not anyone else. You\u2019ve proven yourself guilty with your own words<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:7-9<\/strong>\u2014Are you a heavenly being who was around before the earth? Can only you have wisdom? We\u2019re all on the same page with knowing the stuff you say.<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:10<\/strong>\u2014you are young compared to some of us (Job mentioned wisdom being with the aged in <strong>12:12<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:11<\/strong>\u2014Job is wealthy because God allowed it. Don\u2019t you remember this, Job? Apparently, Eliphaz thinks Job is being dealt with gently because words are what he contends with now (words from his friends)<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:12-13<\/strong>\u2014you are losing self-control and showing unrighteous anger. I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m hearing the stuff you\u2019re saying!<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:14<\/strong>\u2014You are making excuses for your unrighteousness by setting the bar really low (Eliphaz is referring to what Job said in <strong>9:2<\/strong> and <strong>14:4<\/strong> about how man cannot be pure)<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:15-16<\/strong>\u2014If the heavens and angels aren\u2019t pure to God, how much less are you, a man filled with injustice and corruption?<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:17-19<\/strong>\u2014I\u2019ve seen it and the wise men from old can attest to this<\/p>\n<p><strong>15:20-24<\/strong>\u2014the wicked have unceasing pain. His prospering will be cut short. He fears death and knows it\u2019s coming for him.
