The Wedding<\/h1>\n

We expect the marriage of a king to be accompanied by much pomp, and in this, we are not disappointed.<\/p>\n

6<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWhat is this coming up from the wilderness
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Like columns of smoke,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0With all scented powders of the merchant?\n7<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cBehold, it is the\u00a0traveling<\/i>\u00a0couch of Solomon;
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sixty mighty men around it,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Of the mighty men of Israel.\n8<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cAll of them are wielders of the sword,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Expert in war;
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Each man has his sword at his side,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Guarding<\/i>\u00a0against the terrors of the night.\n9<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cKing Solomon has made for himself a sedan chair
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0From the timber of Lebanon.\n10<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cHe made its posts of silver,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Its back of gold
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And<\/i>\u00a0its seat of purple fabric,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0With<\/i>\u00a0its interior lovingly fitted out
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0By the daughters of Jerusalem.\n11<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cGo forth, O daughters of Zion,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And gaze on King Solomon with the crown
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0With which his mother has crowned him
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0On the day of his wedding,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And on the day of his gladness of heart.\u201d<\/blockquote>\n

Sedan Chair<\/p><\/div>\n

The scene is told from the viewpoint of a neutral third party \u2013 the narrator if you will. It opens with a view of a cloud of dust rising in the distance. As it draws near, we first notice the smells of expensive perfumes, as if we had stumbled into the marketplace of merchants in the perfume business. The procession comes closer and we see the platform carrying Solomon. It is one of those covered chairs that is born on the shoulders of men. Surrounding the sedan chair are sixty mighty warriors. They serve as groomsmen to the king.<\/p>\n

As the procession moves by, we see the beauty of the platform being carried. No expense has been spared in this wedding. Even the noblewomen have a hand in the outfitting of the chair. And, of course, the one that everyone wants to see \u2013 especially the ladies \u2013 is the groom himself. Solomon is wearing a crown given to him by his mother just for this occasion.<\/p>\n

Of the wedding ceremony itself, we are not told. Perhaps, as with most weddings, it becomes a large blur in the minds of the participants. The vows are made before the Almighty, but the exact details are lost in the excitement and joy of the occasion.<\/p>\n
