{"id":10213,"date":"2019-09-20T16:22:37","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T21:22:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/?page_id=10213"},"modified":"2019-09-20T16:22:37","modified_gmt":"2019-09-20T21:22:37","slug":"pauls-continued-travel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/bible-studies\/acts-of-the-apostles\/pauls-continued-travel\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul\u2019s Continued Travel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\t<h1>Paul&#8217;s Continued Travel<\/h1>\n<p>Text: Acts 20:1-15<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\nI.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;After the riot in Ephesus had settled down, Paul took leave of the brethren and traveled to\nMacedonia, which would have included the congregations of Philippi, Thessalonica, and\nBerea\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;A.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;He then traveled down to Greece &#8211; most likely Corinth &#8211; where he spent 3\nmonths.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;B.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;He was about to sail from there straight to Syria when he learned of a plot to harm\nhim.\n<p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;1.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;So instead of sailing, he traveled north returning to Macedonia<\/p>\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;2.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;Several of his companions went ahead to meet the group in Troas, a costal\ntown on the north end of Asia Minor.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;3.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;In Macedonia, Luke joins Paul (change in pronouns). Paul had left him in\nPhilippi quite a long while ago. (Acts 16:10-12)\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;C.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;They waited for the Jewish holiday of the Feast of Unleavened Bread to end\nbefore continuing to travel.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;1.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;They managed to meet the others in five days. Probably the winds were\nagainst them, making the trip longer.\nII.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;Even though Paul was wanting to return to Syria and Israel, they stayed in Troas for seven\ndays.\n<p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;A.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;This afforded him the opportunity to worship with the brethren in Troas.<\/p>\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;B.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;On Sunday, they met to partake of the Lord&#8217;s Supper. Since Paul planned to leave\nthe next day, he delivered a long message that lasted until midnight.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;C.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;They were meeting in a third-story room, and while Paul spoke, a young man\nnamed Eutychus who was sitting on the window sill fell asleep and tumbled out of\nthe window.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;1.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;It was assumed the fall had killed him, but Paul rushed down and fell on\nhim.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;2.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;He announced that the young man still lived. We can assume he was\nhealed of any wounds he received in the fall.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;D.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;They returned and ate a meal. It is assumed to be a meal as only Paul is mentioned\nas eating.\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;E.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;Paul continued to talk with the brethren until daybreak, when they left to catch\ntheir ship.\n<p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;1.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;Paul decided not to sail from Troas. Instead, he chose to walk to Assos.<\/p>\n&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;2.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;Assos is just a few miles across the peninsula which Troas is on.
