growing toward the position of being able to compel. Since it was right by
reason of greater strength and power to coerce men to the feast of eternal

the Gospel, that when the seventy followers went back from the Lord they
were left to their own choice in this wicked and impious desertion and that
He said to the twelve remaining ‘Do you not also want to go?’ But what
you fail to say is that at that time the Church was only just beginning to
burst forth from the newly planted seed and that the saying had not as yet
been fulfilled in her ‘All kings shall fall down before Him, all nations shall
serve Him.’ It is in proportion to the more enlarged fulfillment of this
prophecy that the Church now wields greater power – so that she may now
not only invite but also compel men to embrace that which is good.”

their Church is the true Church and that the Roman Church is no Church but a
Church of malignants. They reprobate Church wealth and ecclesiastical regalia,

                        1. He also said, “It is a fundamental right, a privilege of nature, that every
man should worship according to his own convictions. One man’s religion
neither helps nor harms another man. It is not in the nature of religion to
coerce to religion, which must be adopted freely and not by force.”

            B. Later on, Luther start losing ground and ask Urbanus Rhegius to solve the
problem. Rhegius wrote, “The truth leaves you no choice; you must agree that the
magistracy has the authority to coerce his subjects to the Gospel. And if you say,
‘Yes, but with admonition and well-chosen words but by force’ then I answer that
to get people to the services with fine words and admonitions is the preacher’s
duty, but to keep them there with recourse to force if need be and to frighten them
away from error is the proper function of the rulers.”

                        1. He also said, “It follows that our magistrates should punish heretics and
faction-makers and exterminate them, not with less but with greater zeal
than did the kings in the Old Testament.”

the issue of coercion: “They say that one cannot and may not use force to compel
anyone to accept the faith seeing that faith is a free gift from God. It is wrong, say
they, to compel anyone by force or coercion to embrace the faith, or, to put anyone
to death because of erring faith. It is an error, they assert, that in the Church any
other sword is used than that of the divine Word. The secular kingdom, they hold,
should be separate from the Church, and no civil ruler ought to exercise his
authority there. The Lord has commanded, they hold, simply to preach the Gospel
and not to compel anyone by force to accept it. The true Church of Christ,
according to them, has this characteristic that it suffers and endures persecution
but does not inflict it upon any.”

emperor had at that time believed in Christ, in days in which Psalms 2 was

Question:

Hi!

Please share your wisdom with me. I am standing in need of spiritual guidance and prayer.

I have been married for over a year. Half the time I was together with my husband at home and half the time we've been separated. My husband did the unimaginable and betrayed me.

I was raised in a loving, middle-class Christian home where God was at the center. Growing up, life wasn't perfect, but we were safe, loved, and always had what we needed. My husband grew up in a small country, in a poverty-stricken community where family was everything. They didn't grow up with much, but they always had each other. We met when I was traveling. After many years of going back and forth to his country, I sponsored my husband to move to the USA, and we married.

During the five-year long-distance period, I prayed a lot and asked God to reveal if this was the man God chose for me. I was very specific in my prayers. I even said, "God, if this man is not in Your will for my life, please do not allow his immigration papers to be approved." My husband's immigration process went so smoothly and fast. It was definitely a divine intervention. I understood before getting married how important marriage is, how this is a lifelong commitment and a vow between your spouse and God. That is why I prayed for clarity and asked the Lord for guidance in bringing my then-fiance to the United States and getting married. My husband said he believed the same.

My husband began attending the church of Christ in his neighborhood in his country. Soon after my husband arrived in the USA, we were in church together, and the preacher started premarital and discipleship counseling. Everything seemed great. We were happy. We were in love. Everyone loved my husband -- my family, my church family, and my friends. Not one person, including myself, had any reservations or hesitations about our union.

After my husband was able to get his work authorization and began working, I saw a change in his behavior. The more independent and comfortable he got with his transition into the USA, the more he became argumentative, disrespectful, and not like the person I had known for years. I gave my husband my all. He wanted for nothing. He moved into a brand new home. I supported him financially, emotionally, and physically. My family supported him, and we would joke that my family loved my husband more than I did.

One evening, I asked him to take me to get something to eat. He was happy to take me using the vehicle my father loaned to him. Once I opened the car door, it had a horrible, strong smell of marijuana. I had no idea my husband was involved with recreational drugs. I was so upset. I got out of character, screaming and yelling. I was upset because he lied about smoking (we had this conversation before, and he said he didn't smoke, so I believed him). I was furious that he would disrespect my dad and the vehicle when they were kind enough to allow my husband to use. I was also upset because it's illegal to get high and drive. Where we live, there is no tolerance for DUI. I had never been so angry in my life. I demanded my husband give me the keys. He was extremely dismissive and avoided the conversation. He started screaming at me, and things got out of control.

Several days passed. There was tension in the home. We did not have much to say to each other. On the way to church, we began arguing about the marijuana. The argument is so bad we don't even make it to church. We turned back home. My husband stayed in the garage while I was inside the home. All of a sudden, I see the police showing up. I found out my husband called them. I got arrested for disturbing the peace and assault because of the argument my husband and I had days prior. My husband was privately recording me on his cell phone. I had no idea. The police took me to jail. I'm terrified. I have never been in trouble, never been in a fight, and always was the "goody nerd" in school. I spent the evening in jail and was released in the middle of the night.

My husband left that day, and I have not seen him since. This was months ago. Since then, I've been in intense trauma therapy. My life has been a nightmare. Thankfully, the criminal charges were dismissed. I realize how my behavior that day was unacceptable and not Christ-like. I have repented and asked God and my husband for forgiveness. I don't think I deserved to go to jail, but I take full accountability for my actions. My husband claimed abuse because I was trying to get the car keys out of his pockets the day of the fight. I also moved my car behind my father's car so that my husband would not leave until we were calm and could finish the conversation about the drugs.

On that Sunday, when he called the police, my world was turned upside down. My husband says he wants a divorce. He said he would never come back home. He has no remorse. He has not apologized. He does not recognize that I made a mistake by allowing myself to get so angry, which I take complete responsibility for. However, this would have never happened if he was not using drugs. As embarrassing as it was, I informed our preachers, and they tried talking to him. My parents reached out to him. His heart is so cold and hard. He doesn't want to work on the marriage or take accountability for his part. He ran away and avoided me. I no longer reach out to him because when I do, his attitude just makes me feel worse. He's a prodigal. I worry because I did sponsor him to come to the United States on a marriage visa, but I have no idea where he is.

At this point, I would be ignorant not to wonder if he used me to get into the country. He could also claim he is a victim of domestic violence and get away with staying in this country in which I would be responsible for him for ten years. My husband is not a victim of domestic violence. I really need God to show me what His will is. I am praying and praying. I'm mortified, embarrassed, and in complete disbelief. I was completely blindsided. I need prayers from the righteous.

My husband has posted videos of him in the bars getting drunk and dancing inappropriately with women. He is completely unrecognizable. He told me that if God were upset with his behavior, God would not have blessed him with money, a new car, or a job. My husband is so blinded. I don't know what to do because I don't know if I have biblical grounds for divorce or annulment. This is so heavy on my heart because I didn't get married to get divorced. I believe God hates divorce. My faith is the only thing that's keeping me "standing" for my marriage, but it's getting so hard. I feel defeated and heartbroken. I know the prodigal's father did not run after his son, so I try to keep communication at a bare minimum with my husband because I realize he is double-minded. Unfortunately, I imagine his family is encouraging him to behave this way and treat me this way.

I was not a perfect wife, but I was decent, and I took care of my husband like a king and spoiled him. I will never understand how he could betray me. Looking back, I understand how my attitude and word choice caused issues in our marriage. I thought I was marrying a God-fearing, loving, decent family man, but what I married felt like was an immature, out-of-control teenager. I feel stupid for crying every day over my husband after what he did to me. I have forgiven him. I am trying to be still and wait on the Lord.

However, we have to answer to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services next spring regarding our marriage. My husband and I have to file his green card paperwork together saying we are still married, or my husband can file saying he entered the country with good intentions to marry but could not stay married because of abuse, which he and I know is untrue. I read some disrespectful comments on his phone from his mother, encouraging him to betray me. As hard as this is, I know it is Satan. I am living in this gray area that is mentally destroying me. I am ready for restoration, but my husband is continuing to claim he wants a divorce but has not filed.

Can you please pray for me? Is there anything in the Bible that says I am eligible for an annulment, especially considering there is a possibility I am a victim of marriage fraud? I know God's will is for forgiveness and restoration, but my husband believes he has made the right decision by leaving despite my humble apologies. If I file for an annulment, it will be as if the marriage never existed, which could potentially deny my husband another green card once his current green card expires next year because marriage is the only reason the USA allowed him to enter the country. Now, he could be filing paperwork privately claiming he is a DV victim to stay in the country at my financial expense. If we divorce, he could still claim to be a victim and stay in the country if he can prove he genuinely wanted to be married, but things just didn’t work out. This situation is a mess, but God can clean all this up.

I am praying my husband comes back to God. Again, I do not know what to do. I want to be wise and make godly decisions, but I also want to protect myself and the things I work so hard for while obeying God. I did not see any red flags. I prayed before getting married, and this is a side of my husband I never knew existed.

Thank you for your time and wisdom.

Answer:

There are two ways to look at your husband's behavior:

He lied about his past drug use and kept it hidden, but when everything was going well, he started using again. You caught him, but he is more interested in using drugs than being your husband, so he left.

He had planned this years before to get into the United States. He kept up a front to be the type of man you expected, which was made easier by the long-distance relationship. Once he was settled in, he staged drug use to get you angry, which he was prepared to record. He then called the police to get you arrested so he would have evidence of "domestic violence." He left because it was a part of the narrative he was building, and it removed evidence that you only had a momentary lapse into anger.

Either way, he isn't going to file for divorce until he receives his citizenship. If he does file for divorce, his task becomes harder because he will have to prove in court that he was a victim of domestic violence. The one piece of evidence he had was dismissed.

What I strongly recommend is that you hire an attorney and a private investigator. The attorney should be able to keep your husband from claiming domestic violence and keep you from being financially responsible for him. You need the private investigator to gather evidence that your husband is seeing other women and whatever evidence is needed to prove that he is unsuitable for citizenship. If he is seeing other women, which I suspect is very likely, then you will have what you need to end your marriage and be able to marry again. I know this will be expensive, but it will be cheaper than continuing to be used by your husband. The idea of annulment is not found in the Bible.

When your husband realizes that his citizenship is in jeopardy, he will return to reconcile. At that point, you should have enough information to decide whether you can trust him. I suspect the evidence will point to the fact that any attempt to reconcile will just be for show.

I'm glad you turn to God in prayer and should continue. However, I noticed that you asked for signs, even though God said that prophecy would end (I Corinthians 13:8-10). God used to give signs sometimes, but today, we learn His will through Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2), which is done through the Bible. You took as a "sign" something that likely happens. There was nothing special about paperwork being done sooner than expected. Yet, you decided that this meant God wanted you to marry this man. See:

“For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices” (Colossians 3:6-9).

Paul discusses the need to change with the Colossians. He already gave them a list of changes that need to be done in regard to sexual practices (Colossians 3:5) but now he brings up another common problem: sins that revolve around anger. It is a list similar to those found in Ephesians 4:29-31 and I Peter 2:1 but there is an order to Paul’s list in Colossians.

Some of the terms seem confusing because in English the words are synonyms.

Paul begins his list with “anger.” This refers to someone who is so angry that he has lost control and has become violent. Such destructive rage is easily recognized as wrong by Christians and non-Christians alike. Thus, the question should be how we can minimize that level of violence from occurring.

Before we pot boils over, we can see it steaming. Paul’s next term, “wrath” refers to heavy-breathing fierceness. Imagine, if you would, the classic cartoon of some character who is so mad that he is gritting his teeth while huffing and puffing. An example of wrath is found in Luke 4:28-29 when the Jews in Nazareth were so furious by Jesus’ reminder that God did favors to Gentiles over Jews that they were breathing heavily in rage and sought to throw Jesus off a cliff. People with this much hatred no longer think clearly and have little to inhibit them from becoming violent.

Such anger and rage do not spontaneously appear. There is a heart problem that precedes most sins. “Malice” is acting with evil intent. This was the motivation of the Jews when attempting to trap Jesus (Matthew 22:18). Thus, people who already hate someone and wish that person ill will easily act out on their thoughts. “But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes” (I John 2:11).

“Blasphemy” is the wilful vilification of someone with greater authority. Many of the translations use the broader term “slander.” Think about the various riots that break out. Before the uproar, there are almost always stories circulating that some authority figure is doing evil things. Without checking any facts, people begin thinking evil things about the person. Soon they are seething in anger and violence breaks out. You can see this in the riot in Jerusalem against Paul (Acts 21:28-31).

Prior to the slander, you will find people engaged in “trash talk.” Paul lists “abusive language” or “filthy language.” This is when people bad-mouth another person, saying mean and hurtful things. It is empty talk because there is no real content behind what is being said, but it does stir up resentment. People are likely to accept slander about someone they already resent.

But behind all of these are lies. People aren’t interested in discovering the truth. Lies are juicer and more shocking.

It is surprising how often lies are connected to sins of anger.

Romans 1:29 - deceit, malice, gossip

I Corinthians 5:8 - malice and wickedness versus sincerity and truth

Ephesians 4:31 - wrath, anger, clamor, slander, malice

I Peter 2:1 - malice, deceit, slander

So how do we keep from getting caught up in violence? The core is to be honest people who check their facts before telling others things that they have heard. Without the fuel of lies, fiery tempers cool. “For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, contention quiets down” (Proverbs 26:20).

each of whom arrived independently at the decision to break windows. A
riot was a social process, in which people did things in reaction to and in
combination with those around them. Social processes are driven by our
thresholds — which he defined as the number of people who need to be
doing some activity before we agree to join them. In the elegant theoretical
model Granovetter proposed, riots were started by people with a threshold
of zero — instigators willing to throw a rock through a window at the
slightest provocation. Then comes the person who will throw a rock if
someone else goes first. He has a threshold of one. Next in is the person
with the threshold of two. His qualms are overcome when he sees the
instigator and the instigator’s accomplice. Next to him is someone with a
threshold of three, who would never break windows and loot stores unless
there were three people right in front of him who were already doing
that—and so on up to the hundredth person, a righteous upstanding citizen
who nonetheless could set his beliefs aside and grab a camera from the
broken window of the electronics store if everyone around him was
grabbing cameras from the electronics store. Granovetter was most taken
by the situations in which people did things for social reasons that went
against everything they believed as individuals. “Most did not think it
‘right’ to commit illegal acts or even particularly want to do so,” he wrote,
about the findings of a study of delinquent boys. “But group interaction
was such that none could admit this without loss of status; in our terms,
their threshold for stealing cars is low because daring masculine acts bring
status, and reluctance to join, once others have, carries the high cost of
being labeled a sissy.” You can’t just look at an individual’s norms and
motives. You need to look at the group.” [Malcolm Gladwell, “Thresholds

This last week brought us another horrific historical event. Nineteen dear students and two teachers in Uvalde, TX, were killed in a random act of violence by an 18-year-old Salvador Ramos. Reports tell us he also killed his grandmother before going to Robb Elementary School on his rampage. The husband of one of the slain teachers has since died in an apparent heart attack. The family said the grief of losing his wife brought this calamity. The tragedies continue to climb in the aftermath of this shooting.

554 Dead Since 1999

Though we know that school shootings have happened before 1999 (the earliest recorded in 1840), it seems that since the Columbine (CO) school shooting, these events have been on our “radar screens.” I saw a posting that said there have been 554 people killed in school shootings since 1999. To put it mildly, this is a severe problem we face in this country. Let me hasten to add the number “554” does not include school shootings or other violent behavior that has taken place worldwide. This number reflects only the shootings in the US since 1999.

When we are faced with these events, the voices seeking to ban all guns are the loudest heard. It is believed that if guns were banned, or at the very least, made harder to obtain than they are currently, such acts of violence would be avoided. Obviously, if guns were outlawed, then the statistics for death and injury by gun violence would be significantly lowered. If firearms are not available to the majority of citizens, they obviously would not be able to shoot one another.

What Is the Answer to the Violence?

However, is the banning of firearms the answer to violence? Let me suggest this response is short-sighted. Outlawing guns might have a temporary effect of lowering a statistic. However, someone determined to do violence to others will find a weapon, whether it is a fist, a baseball bat, a stick or stone, a bomb, a sword, a knife, a book, a chain, a whip, a board, a chair, (you see my point?), etc. In the right hands, almost anything can become a weapon (even our words!). I remember a school bus ride when I was in the 4th or 5th grade, and an older boy got upset and broke a coke bottle (we had glass bottles back then) and began swinging the broken bottle around in an attempt to cut the bus driver! He had no gun or knife, but he had a broken glass bottle he was ready to plunge into anyone who came near him! There was not a gun within a mile of us that day, yet lives were threatened. If certain people had witnessed what I had, I wonder what they would suggest we ban?

Violence Is a Matter of “Heart Control.”

Violence is in a person’s heart, and it will come out if we do not get these feelings under control! Remember Cain (Genesis 4:1-11)? I see no record in the Bible of what weapon (if any) Cain used against Abel, but I know that after their argument, Abel was dead (Genesis 4:8)! Friends, could I suggest it is not another law we need. Instead, we need Jesus!

Jesus taught, “Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and goes into the sewer? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile a man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false witness, slanders. These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man” (Matthew 15:17-20, LSB).

Paul said something similar. “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway” (I Cor. 9:27). He later wrote, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (II Corinthians 10:3-5).

We are encouraged to think about things that are “true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

What do those four passages show us? They show that if we think about something long enough, we will do it! If we think about something long enough, we will say it! Therefore, let us think about things that are godly, lovely, pure, honest, etc. (Philippians 4:8)! This will bless us! Thinking about the wicked and ungodly defiles us!

What Is Going into Our Minds?

In the case of the Uvalde shooting, we cannot talk to Salvador Ramos about his motivation, for he was shot during the event. However, there are others who have committed violent acts that can be interviewed. Often, those who have committed violent acts will say that their actions resulted from time spent thinking about violent things. Sometimes, bullying motivates people’s wickedness (think: revenge). At other times, something else was the motivation. Yet, it can be agreed that at the beginning, these people were thinking about things they should not have been thinking about. After a while, thoughts became actions, just as the Bible warns!

Friends, our brains retain everything seen, heard, smelled, felt, tasted, etc. It is not like we can think about something evil and then turn on the “garbage disposal” and send it away! These things stay in the mind. This is what Jesus taught in Matthew 15! This is why Paul said to think about the good and righteous things (Philippians 4:8)! We think about the right things in expectation that this is what will come out in our words and actions, and not the evil.

The Answer to Much of the Violence We Witness.

We mentioned above the need for Jesus’ teaching and the need to listen to the words of Scripture. Allow the words of truth (Johnn 17:17) to guide us in our youth and into our old age (Ecclesiastes 11:9-12:1). To accomplish what the Bible describes, it means we need people alert and doing their jobs! We need to care for others and realize we are our “brother’s keeper” (Genesis 4:9; Matthew 7:12; 22:39; Galatians 6:2; James 2:8)!

Parents, where are you? Our children need direction, focus, and discipline. Guiding them in correct thinking now while their brains are still maturing will help them cope and overcome when they face hardships in the future. This is not the job of school teachers. This is the parents’ job! “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4, LSB, NAS)! Mothers need to be “in behavior as becometh holiness … teach the young women …” (Titus 2:3-5).

In addition to these, let older men “be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance” (Titus 2:2, LSB). Never forget the power we have to influence others. Therefore, let us make sure we are influencing people in a godly way (Matthew 5:14-16)! Who knows, but a word or action by a parent, grandparent, sibling, or even a respected person could mean the difference between life and death! Yes, it is that important!

Conclusion

If every nation on earth produced a law that banned guns from every country, we still would not have addressed the issue that motivates mass murder. Until we address this, the violence will never end. Men will find ways to kill and harm others. It was done before guns, gun powder, bullets, etc., ever crossed our minds! Sadly, it will continue until our “heart problem” is addressed in every family!

During the past couple of days, I’ve been listening to politicians, political pundits, and experts from various fields discuss the “why” of the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that snuffed out the lives of 19 innocent little children.

This occurred just 10 days after a gunman went on a shooting rampage at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo, New York where 10 people were shot and killed whose only crime was going grocery shopping.

Why are there so many of these mass shootings in America?

Of course, the point is made that in some of our larger cities murder is a common occurrence every weekend. According to Chicago Police, 178 people have been killed in 2022 through the end of April.

Why? And what can we do to stop these senseless crimes?

Predictably, calls are made for stricter gun laws. Many have said we have a mental health crisis in America that needs to be addressed. Others suggest more armed security officers in schools and even allowing teachers to carry guns. Most are demanding hardening soft targets like schools.

While there is some validity to all the various reasons and suggestions given by the experts, our problems go beyond gun control, mental health, or greater security.

So, what’s the answer?

I could not help but reflect on a statement made by our 30th President Calvin Coolidge in his 1921 commencement address at Wheaton College.

“We do not need more material development, we need more spiritual development, we do not need more intellectual power, we need more moral power. We do not need more knowledge, we need more character. We do not need more government, we need more culture. We do not need more laws, we need more religion. We do not need more of the things that are seen, we need more of the things that are unseen.”

We are facing a spiritual crisis in our country

The farther people get away from God and the precepts and principles of His Word, the more wicked, corrupt, and lawless they become. This can be seen all the way back to Genesis when “every intention and thoughts of man’s heart was evil continually” (Genesis 6:5). The sad state of moral putridity during the period of the Judges is encapsulated in a single statement, “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

We live in a country of broken homes where there is no moral guidance from a father and a mother. Where same-sex marriage is celebrated. Where the sanctity of human life is devalued. Where 63 million babies have been murdered since 1973 when Roe v Wade became law. Where there are more pornographic websites than Mcdonald's. Where drug and alcohol abuse is rampant. Where God is mocked. And where Christianity is ridiculed.

Add to this the incessant drumbeat over the past 50-60 years that there are no moral absolutes. That Truth is decided by what’s best for me and that your truth may not be my truth. And the humanistic view that religious considerations should be excluded from civil affairs and public education.

Mix in these issues, the problem of insolation, loneliness, devaluing social interaction and relationships, and an inordinate amount of time looking at a screen, and here we are today.

Bill Bennett’s observation in his 1990’s best-seller, “The Book of Virtues,” is more applicable than ever. “I submit to you that the real crisis of our time is spiritual.” Furthermore, Bennett asserts “A human being without faith, without reverence for anything, is a human being morally adrift.”

There is no doubt that America needs a course correction. Of course, in an election year, we’re assured electing the right candidate will solve our problems. But as Cal Thomas once wrote in Christianity Today, “Real change comes heart by heart, not election by-election, because our primary problems are not economic and political, but moral and spiritual.”

While the tone of the post, may sound rather bleak and our problems insurmountable, there is help. And there is hope.

It begins in my heart. My home. My community. And my church. I cannot solve all the problems of the world, but I can be accountable to God. Take personal responsibility. Commit to Biblical values. And do my best each day to practice the Golden Rule and the two great commandments.

You and I may not change our country, but we can change our own little corner of the world.

Why?

“Why do we keep letting this happen?”

You cannot control human hearts. From the heart proceed murders and all manner of sin (Mark 7:21-23). We have stopped giving hearts a moral compass in our homes. Schools have conditioned generations to think morality is just whatever we want it to be since we are not made in God’s image but are products of chance and evolution. We have trained children to disrespect the law and human life. We have aborted children because they are sometimes inconvenient. If you can kill them before birth, where is the moral compass that says that life is valuable after birth? Some never teach the golden rule because that principle is “religious” in nature. We have been conditioned to reject all things “religious” while making humanism and atheism the favored religion. Our moral compass is not tied to accountability to anyone.

With all these variables of devalued life and hopelessness, we have to realize that the only legitimate question in this atmosphere is “how can it not happen?” All the more reason to preach repentance toward God so that hearts can find the moral compass that has the power to change the heart for the better!

Answer:

"What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures" (James 4:1-3).

So long as there are selfish people in the world, conflicts will continue. "The violence of the wicked will drag them away, because they refuse to act with justice" (Proverbs 21:7). This world has been marred by sin and it will remain that way until the world ends. It is only in heaven that you'll find true peace because there no sin will enter into it. "In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed; and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life" (Revelation 21:25-27).
