Am I praying in vain for the outlawing of homosexuality and abortion? I honestly never see these politicians and judges overturning these laws in this country. Also, is it vain to pray for society in general to stop casually accepting adultery, fornication and other acts that God finds despicable? I pray for these things everyday not only because God hates it, also because I find it wrong.

None of those are wrong. They are specific examples of Jesus' more general prayer: "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10). David is another example of praying that wickedness would be defeated. See Psalms 10.
